Picture of homeopathic remedy

Homeopathy was first developed by Samuel Hahnemann, a German physician, in the late 18th century. Homeopathy is based on the principle that "like cures like". Hahnemann first observed this principle with the use of cinchona bark to treat malaria. Hahnemann discovered that when cinchona was given to healthy individuals, it caused symptoms similar to those seen in malaria patients. Through experimentation, Hahnemann found that by using small doses of a substance he could avoid the toxic side effects while still providing healing benefits. In producing these remedies, Hahnemann used a series of dilutions and succussions (vigorous shaking) which leads to what are termed "potentized" remedies. A very similar technique is still used to this day.

Dr. Dennis believes strongly in individualizing treatment plans for each patient. Homeopathy, in and of itself, is a highly individualized treatment modality. Any given illness or complaint can be treated with multiple homeopathic remedies. This is because the presentation for an illness can vary highly between individuals. A good, classical homeopath can recognize and account for these differences and prescribe the proper remedy for each person. This is a skill that requires much training and diligence on the part of the homeopath, but can make the utmost difference in a patient's life.

Naturopathic physicians are trained to use food and nutrients as medicine. As such, a visit with a naturopath will most certainly involve some aspect of nutrition -- either dietary changes or... - read more -
